Melvin Zehr made his only basket of the game with 11.5 seconds remaining to give Lowville a 36-35 upset win over top-seeded South Jefferson in the Frontier League B Division boys basketball final Tuesday night at Jefferson Community College.
South Jefferson s Matt McLean missed the front end of a 1-and-1with 32.1 seconds left with his team ahead by a point. Zehr found himself 10 feet from the basket as the clock wound down, turned around and banked in a shot.
South Jefferson (8-10) had a final shot to win, but Dylan Estals baseline jumper was no good in the final seconds.
Brian OConner and Dylan Rombough each scored 13 points for Lowville (5-12), which lost its first 10 games of the season.
Troy Randall led South Jefferson with 10 points.
