SYRACUSE — Cara Johnson scored two goals in the third period, including an empty-netter with 1 minute, 25 seconds left, to help the Syracuse University women’s hockey team to a 3-0 win over St. Lawrence University in a nonconference game Tuesday night.

It was the first meeting for the Orange (15-11-2) against SLU. Syracuse is coached by former Saints coach and Canton native Paul Flanagan, who went 230-83-24 with five trips to the Frozen Four as SLU’s coach from 1999-2008.

Allie LaCombe also scored for Syracuse and Jenesica Drinkwater made 37 saves to shut out the Saints (9-15-3).

MEN’S BASKETBALL

MORRISVILLE STATE 76, SUNY CANTON 70

Jailaan Kinsey scored 19 points to lead the Mustangs (12-6) past SUNY Canton in a nonconference game in Morrisville.

Will Thomas tallied 15 points and Sherard King added 10 for Morrisville State.

Khalil Bratton led SUNY Canton (5-13) with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Sam Annorh scored 20 points, Romario Fletcher 12 and Kam Peterkin 10 for the Kangaroos.

SKIDMORE 66, CLARKSON 45

Tanner Brooks scored 12 points and snagged 10 rebounds and Perun Kovacevic added 10 points and 10 rebounds as Skidmore (13-7, 7-4) defeated the Golden Knights in a Liberty League game in Saratoga Springs.

Felix Abongo led Clarkson (10-8, 4-5) with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

MORRISVILLE STATE 58, SUNY CANTON 45 (OT)

Jordan Anderson scored 21 points and added seven assists and eight steals to lead the Mustangs (5-13) to an overtime win over SUNY Canton in a nonconference game in Morrisville. The Mustangs had a 16-3 edge in overtime.

Jennel Paul added 17 points for Morrisville State.

Brianna Sayer led SUNY Canton (5-14) with 17 points and Joelle Percy tallied 16, including a 3-pointer with five seconds left in the second half to force overtime.

SKIDMORE 64, CLARKSON 53

Jordyn Wartts and Molly McLaughlin each scored 16 points as Skidmore (9-11, 4-7) knocked off Clarkson in a Liberty League contest in Saratoga Springs.

Ashley Loggins scored 28 points for the Golden Knights (8-9, 3-6) and Jovanna Snead tossed in 13.
