Melissa Hunt finished with 10 kills and 40 digs to help No. 3 Beaver River upset top-seeded South Lewis, 3-2, to capture the C Division title during the Frontier League volleyball championships on Saturday at Case Middle School.
Anna Bush produced 15 kills, and Madison Compton contributed 10 kills and 28 digs for the Beavers, who won 18-25, 25-16, 26-24, 23-25, 25-21.
Mariah Abel and Keanna Proulx distributed 18 and 15 assists, respectively, and Malori Mattimore supplied six kills and 28 digs. Sidney Hawksley added seven assists and 17 digs for Beaver River (13-3).
The loss was bittersweet for the Falcons who celebrated a slew of milestones.
Senior libero Jayne Strigle made a school-record 72 digs in the match to surpass 1,000 digs for her career with 1,016.
She couldnt even believe it, South Lewis coach Ashley Gino said. She looked like she wanted to cry.
Strigle also broke her own school records with 18 digs in a game and 373 digs for the season.
Junior setter Chloe Steinbrickner broke her own school record for assists in a match with 44. She also supplied 25 digs and 10 points.
Jaedyn Ossont provided 12 kills, 18 digs and nine points for South Lewis (15-3).
SOUTH JEFFERSON 3, LOWVILLE 1
Jackie Decker accounted for 16 service points and 20 assists to help power the top-seeded Spartans over the No. 2 Red Raiders, 25-18, 25-17, 21-25, 25-12, for the B Division crown.
Janessa Vaadi scored on 10 kills and four aces, and Jessica Goutremout hit 10 kills for South Jefferson (13-3).
For the Red Raiders, Ashlee Sprowl and Charity Gingerich made 16 and 11 digs, respectively. Isabelle Hanno distributed 18 assists, and Lindsey Golas hit 10 kills for Lowville (6-11).
CARTHAGE 3, WATERTOWN 1
Cassie Birth registered 12 kills and 12 digs to guide the top-seeded Comets to victory over the No. 2 Cyclones to claim the A Division title.
Claire Sauter distributed 15 assists, and Jenna Scott made 30 digs. Carly Sullivan handed out 12 assists for Carthage (12-4), which won 25-22, 25-19, 13-25, 26-24.
For the Cyclones, Emily Medley generated 10 kills, and Olivia Heiler supplied 17 assists and two aces. Maggie Finster recorded five kills and 13 assists, and Porsha Gathers-Grossett added six kills and 20 digs for Watertown (9-8).
SOUTH LEWIS 3, THOUSAND ISLANDS 0
Zoe Shepherd contributed five kills and four aces as the No. 1 Falcons beat the No. 4 Vikings, 25-14, 25-12, 25-10, during a C Division semifinal game at Case Middle School.
Chloe Steinbrickner finished with 24 assists, seven points and five digs, and Alicia Andrews added 14 points, including six aces, for South Lewis.
Thousand Islands is 3-12.
BEAVER RIVER 3, SANDY CREEK 2
Anna Bush generated 18 kills to help the No. 3 Beavers beat the No. 2 Comets, 18-25, 25-16, 26-24, 23-25, 25-21, in a thrilling C Division semifinal.
Madison Compton contributed 12 kills and six aces, and Melissa Hunt and Malori Mattimore hit 11 kills apiece.
Mariah Abel supplied 25 assists, and Keanna Proulx handed out 14 assists for Beaver River (13-3).
For the Comets, Kylie Hanni registered 18 kills, five blocks and five digs, and Grace Wallace supplied 15 kills, and seven digs. Kylee Martin provided 38 assists, and McKenna Guarasce added 11 kills and five blocks for Sandy Creek (12-3).
WATERTOWN 3, INDIAN RIVER 0
Olivia Heiler finished with five aces, 11 assists and 13 service points as the Cyclones won an A Division regular-season match at Watertown High School.
Emily Medley scored on seven kills and six aces, and Stacia Wallace supplied four kills, and seven digs for Watertown (9-7, 8-7).
For the Warriors, Kasey Fuller finished with five kills, nine assists, and 10 digs. Alex Berge contributed seven digs, and Makenna Honeywell added five kills for Indian River (2-14, 2-13).
SOUTH JEFFERSON 3, GENERAL BROWN 0
Ellie Brooks provided 10 assists and nine points during the Spartans 25-18, 25-9, 25-19 regular-season B Division victory over the Lions (1-14).
Beth Booher registered eight point, and Caitlyn Slate added six assists and five points for South Jefferson (13-3).
