MASSENA - The Massena Central varsity boys basketball team posted a 69-37 NAC Central Division win on Retro Night at home against St. Lawrence Central on Friday.
Senior Xavier Viskovich fired through a game-high 23 points as the Raiders pulled away from a 37-23 halftime lead. Dante Viskovich added 14 points followed by Logan Deshane with 12. Zevon Viskovich and Rhoades Tarbell chipped in eight points each. Tyler Haas and Dan Wing closed out the Massena scoresheet with two points apiece.
For the Larries (2-14, 0-12), Josh White netted 11 points followed by Nathan Arquette with eight. Cody Meacham and Shane Fuentes contributed six points each while Bradley Francis added three, Jayce Lanning two and Taylor Gauthier one.
The Raiders (13-3, 11-1) will now get set to host Franklin Academy next Tuesday before gearing up for their regular-season finale on the road next Friday against undefeated division leading OFA. The Larries are slated to host Salmon River on Tuesday.
In the other Central Division games Friday night, Salmon River outscored Gouverneur 53-35, Franklin Academy turned back Potsdam 62-55 and OFA overpowered Canton 99-25.
Salmon River 53, Gouverneur 35: In Gouverneur, the Shamrocks (6-7, 4-7) steadily pulled away from a 16-10 first-quarter lead for the win. Kason Tarbell led the way with 13 points followed by Russ Oakes with 12 and Antoine Domino with 11. Josh Hynes chipped in another five. Zach Smith and Justin Bigness finished with four points each while Brandon Burdash and John Harvey tallied two apiece.
Devin Cox led the Wildcats (5-10, 2-9) with a game-high 16 points. Dustin Hutton added nine followed by Curt LaPlant with six.
The Shamrocks are slated to play at St. Lawrence Central on Tuesday.
FA 62, Potsdam 55: In Malone, Matt Stone anchored a balanced effort for Potsdam (8-8, 6-6) with 12 points. Dequan Pitts chipped in 11 followed by Nick Vaccaro with 10, Jack Byrnes with nine, Brian Cole with six, Connor Prosper with five and Travis Stephenson with two.
Alex Johnson led the Huskies (13-3, 9-3) with a game-high 19 points followed by Austin Lamay with 16 and Kody Mulverhill with 11.
Potsdam is scheduled to host OFA on Tuesday.
OFA 99, Canton 25: In Ogdensburg, Colin Ross netted a game-hiogh 22 points, including four three-pointers, as the Blue Devils raced out to a 33-8 lead by the end of the first quarter. Kinnon LaRose tallied 21 points and 10 assists while Seth Pinkerton contributed another 12 points.
Scott Wight anchored the Canton offense with 10 points. Evan LaPoint and Eugene Hitchman added five points each.
A pair of NAC Central Division varsity girls basketball games played on Friday saw Franklin Academy outscore Salmon River 60-35 and Canton turn back OFA 47-43.
FA 60, Salmon River 35: At Fort Covington, the Lady Huskies broke away from a 14-11 first-quarter lead with a 19-5 second-quarter run before going on to clinch at least a share of the regular season title at 12-0 (14-1 overall). Meghan OConnor led all scorers with 20 points followed by Rachel Lamica with 14 while Morgan Fountain and Taylor Poirier each netted seven.
For the Lady Shamrocks (4-8, 4-7), Taylor Francis tossed through 16 points followed by Jaden Mitchell with 11 while Kwiio King, Jocelyn Martin, Brittany Brooks and Oakes each finished with two.
Canton 47, OFA 43: At Jerry Hourihan Gym, the visiting Lady Blue Devils (8-6, 6-4) worked their way to a 20-19 halftime lead and were ahead 32-27 to start the fourth quarter before the Lady Golden Bears (12-3, 10-2) put together a decisive 20-11 run.
Tori Daley paced Canton with 15 points followed by Rachel Sanderson with 12.
Meg Dodge fired through four three-pointers in scoring a game-high 16 points for OFA. Riley Luckie chipped in another 10 points.
