The recent disturbing trend in government is to intentionally bypass the legislative process via executive orders, as well as gangs of eight, to enact laws effectively bypassing actual sensible legislation. We have experienced this firsthand in our own state of New York when the so-called SAFE (Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement) Act was enacted this time last year by a message of necessity.
The SAFE Act was literally and figuratively passed under the cover of darkness in the middle of the night to intentionally bypass public scrutiny and the normal three-day waiting period. Needless to say, necessary the SAFE Act ... it was not. Its most important role, however, was to serve as a launch pad to propel Gov. Cuomo into the national spotlight in his potential bid for POTUS.
Also in regards to the so-called SAFE Act, it now seems to be a popular pastime of Watertown Daily Times editorial page editor Jerry Moore to use his media platform to denigrate a large segment of law-abiding New York citizens and individual firearms owners. His intentional labeling and demonization of anyone who objects to the NY SAFE Act as engaging in what he describes as a form of idolatry, to include a subtle form of racism, clearly suggests furthering his own personal agenda.
In an effort to dispel the disparaging myth he has elaborately fabricated against individual firearms ownership, I am providing links to facilitate dialogue between intellectually honest firearms owners and non-firearms owners.
Many law enforcement professionals recognize the toothless legislation enacted has effectively served in making instant criminals out of law-abiding citizens. New York police officer associations, one being the Albany Police Officers Union, have denounced the SAFE Act as it does little to curb actual gun violence. The following are two groups that actively foster responsible firearms education, sensible firearms regulations and individual firearms ownership.
It is an election year and crucial as responsible citizens, we actually engage and participate in the legislative process thereby giving the boot to those elected representatives who intentionally bypass our voice, passing unconstitutional, hollow laws.
