OGDENSBURG — A Heuvelton man who allegedly tried to smuggle drugs into an addiction treatment center was charged by city police on Thursday with six misdemeanor counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Eric S. Lalonde, 29, of 4555 Route 812, was arrested at Hamilton Hall, on the grounds of the St. Lawrence Addiction Treatment Center, at about 12:45 p.m. with 27 suboxone strips, one oxycotin pill, 27 clonazepam pills, one buprenorphine hydrochloride pill and four methylphenidate pills.

Suboxone and buprenorphine hydrochloride are drugs used to treat opiate addiction. Oxycotin is a narcotic painkiller. Methylphenidate is a drug used to treat attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder.

According to court documents, Mr. Lalonde did not have prescriptions from a doctor for any of the medications.

The medicine was allegedly found on Mr. Lalonde’s person by Patricia J. Hewko, who discovered the medication when Mr. Lalonde was changing behind a curtain, according to her statement to police.

In her deposition, Ms. Hewko said, “While [Mr. Lalonde] was disrobing, a cell phone and other items of contraband fell onto the floor.”

When Mr. Lalonde took off his boxer shorts, Ms. Hewko said, she could hear plastic crinkling. She said at that point she asked Mr. Lalonde to hand over the drugs and contacted police.

Mr. Lalonde was arraigned by City Court Judge A. Michael Gebo and released to probation supervision. He is scheduled to reappear in court Jan. 28 at 9 a.m.
