The group that brought the most recent version of Snowtown USA to Watertown will be trying again to offer winter-themed activities after icy and cold conditions during the six-day festival forced some to be canceled.

Several outdoor events have been rescheduled.

On Jan. 25, the group will hold “Winter Adventures at Thompson Park,” which will feature a variety of outdoor activities, including:

n Free dog-sled rides, near the large stone pavilion, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

n Free horse-drawn wagon rides through the park, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

n Free winter back-country travel demonstrations and activities, such as cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and building snow shelters in the large stone pavilion, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Other events are:

n A snow softball tournament at the Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds’s softball fields the weekend of Jan. 24 to 26. Game times vary.

n The Red and Black semi-professional football team will play a touch football game at the fairgrounds on Feb. 8. Kickoff is 10 a.m.

All the events were scheduled to be held during the six-day event from Dec. 31 to Jan. 5.

A group of volunteers, the Parks and Recreation Department and the Greater Watertown-North Country Chamber of Commerce put on Snowtown USA as a way to pay homage to Watertown’s winter weather.

The festival was held from the early 1980s until unreliable weather forced it to go on a lengthy hiatus since1997.
