Colleen M. ONeill, a 28-year state police veteran, will make an announcement regarding her candidacy for the Jefferson County Sheriffs race at 9:45 a.m. today at the former Masonic Temple Building, 242 Washington St.
Ms. ONeill, who is a LaFargeville native and the daughter of former Jefferson County Sheriff Alfred P. ONeill, retired from the state police in 2012 as a senior investigator in charge of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation unit at the Alexandria Bay state police barracks.
She indicated that she was considering a run for sheriff last week during a visit by Lt. Gov. Robert J. Duffy to the Dulles State Office Building. She said she would run as a Democrat.
Undersheriff Paul W. Trudeau has already announced that he will be running as a Democrat for sheriff and John R. Bocciolatt has announced that he will run for the position as a Republican.
