POTSDAM — Clarkson University made it a clean sweep of archrival St. Lawrence University in women’s hockey this weekend.

The Golden Knights scored three third-period goals, including a pair from Olivia Howe, and goalie Erica Howe made 15 saves to blank the Saints for the second consecutive day in a 3-0 ECAC Hockey decision Saturday at Cheel Arena.

The shutout is the second straight for Howe, a senior who has now gone 138, minutes, 39 seconds without allowing a goal. She made 21 stops on Friday as sixth-ranked Clarkson blanked St. Lawrence, 6-0. Howe has recorded a nation-leading nine shutouts this campaign for the Golden Knights (16-4-2, 7-2-1).

Clarkson broke through as Olivia Howe pounced on a Christine Lambert rebound at 4:08 for the game’s first score.

After Brittany Styner scored a power-play goal for the Golden Knights at 17:14, Howe followed with an unassisted, empty-net goal in the final minute. Carmen Macdonald stopped 29 shots for the Saints (6-13-1, 5-4-1).

SUNY CANTON 2, CHATHAM 1

Karley Cree’s power-play goal midway through the second period proved to be the game winner as the Kangaroos won a nonconference game in Canton.

Bernadette O’Connell also scored for Canton (5-10-2) and goalie Shayna Dominique made 21 saves. Chatham fell to 3-8-2.

MEN’S HOCKEY

SUNY CANTON 6, SUFFOLK 2

Cory Giczewski tallied two goals and two assists to pace the Kangaroos to a nonconference victory over the Rams (5-8-1) in Boston.

Austin Root and Lee Melde each recorded a goal and an assist for SUNY Canton (3-11-1) and J.R. Lafferty totaled three assists. Morgan Barr made 38 saves for the Kangaroos.

SUNY POTSDAM 3, SKIDMORE 2

Zach Blake scored the deciding goal early in the third period and the Bears went on to hold off the Thoroughbreds (6-6-4) in a nonconference game in Potsdam.

Shane Talarico made 18 saves for the Bears (6-8-0).

MEN’S BASKETBALL

RENSSELAER 100, ST. LAWRENCE 75

Jonathan Luster led four double-digit scorers with 15 points to guide the Engineers (3-8. 1-1) to a Liberty League win over the Saints (4-6, 1-1) in Troy.

St. Lawrence was led by Brady Condlin’s 17 points and Payton Stahler 12 points and 11 rebounds.

SUNY GENESEO 86, SUNY POTSDAM 74

James McKenna scored 23 points and Connor Fedge contributed 20 points to spark the Knights (7-2, 1-1) to a SUNYAC triumph in Potsdam.

Colin Peterson paced the Bears (2-9, 0-4) with 17 points.

FINGER LAKES CC 86, JEFFERSON CC 74

Brandon Bullock poured in 35 points to carry the Lakers (12-5, 2-0) to a Mid-State Athletic Conference victory over the host Cannoneers.

Duston Pond scored 23 points to lead Jefferson Community College (4-8, 0-2). Damien Jackson added 21 points for the Cannoneers.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

ST. LAWRENCE 61, RENSSELAER 51

Kelly Legg scored 16 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to pace the Saints (5-5, 2-0) to a Liberty League victory over the Engineers (2-9, 0-2) in Troy.

Cassie St. Hilaire contributed 10 points and Kara McDuffee pulled down 17 rebounds for the Saints.

JEFFERSON CC 76, FINGER LAKES CC 55

Alyssa Crosby scored 29 points and Jasmine Canady added 21 to power the host Cannoneers (10-2, 2-0) to a Mid-State Athletic Conference win over the Lakers (4-8, 1-1).

Kristin Broderick led the Lakers with 18 points and Alicia Armstrong contributed 10.

SUNY COBLESKILL 69, SUNY CANTON 68 (OT)

Tracee Schiebel scored on a putback with 1.5 seconds remaining as the Fighting Tigers edged the Kangaroos in a nonconference game in Cobleskill.

Schiebel finished with a game-high 20 points for SUNY Cobleskill (2-8). Breanna Vatter scored a game-high 25 points for SUNY Canton (2-8).

SUNY GENESEO 65, SUNY POTSDAM 51

Dana Cohan led all scorers with 16 points as the Knights topped the Bears (3-8, 1-3) in a SUNYAC game in Potsdam.

Katie Peterson added 13 points for SUNY Geneseo (7-2, 1-1). Bailey Weigel, Jessica Kouzan and Colleen McNamara each scored 10 points to lead SUNY Potsdam.

MEN’S SWIMMING

CLARKSON FOURTH IN TROY

Al Catano won the 200-meter backstroke to pace the Golden Knights to a fourth-place finish at the Kumpf Invitational at Rensselaer.

Clarkson also posted a second-place showing in the 400 medley relay, led by Catano, Kyle Hancock, Nick Short and Sam Zagrobelny.
