Jonathan E. Melendez, 29, of 332 Winslow St., Apt. 1, Watertown, was charged by city police on Friday afternoon at City Hall, 245 Washington St., with second-degree criminal contempt and fourth-degree witness tampering.

Police said he called Tasha Vincent from the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building on Dec. 31 and tried to convince her not to testify at an upcoming court hearing against him, despite a stay-away order of protection against him.

He was arraigned in Watertown City Court and returned to the jail.
