Thomas H. Niles, 25, of 4470 Po Valley Drive, Fort Drum, was arrested at 7:57 p.m. Sunday by Jefferson County sheriffs deputies and charged with driving while intoxicated after deputies pulled him over for speeding.
According to deputies, Mr. Niles was driving 72 mph in a 55-mph zone on Route 11 in the town of Leray. Deputies said Mr. Niles was pulled over and given a breath test, which determined his blood alcohol content was 0.14 percent. Under state law, a BAC of 0.08 percent or more constitutes proof of intoxication.
In addition to speeding and DWI, Mr. Niles was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and drinking alcohol in a motor vehicle.
He was transported to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building, where he was processed and then released into military custody. He will appear in town of LeRay Court to answer the charges.
