CANTON - Madrid-Waddington will be looking for its second title in three years and host Canton will be looking for its first championship since 2008 when the 35th annual Burkman Classic Holiday Boys Basketball Tournament concludes tonight.

M-W (3-3) methodically pulled away to a 61-36 victory over Hermon-DeKalb (0-7) and Canton (2-3) displayed great balance in the second half to down defending champion Edwards-Knox (3-4) 69-61.

M-W 61 - H-D 33: Maurice Rease buried a pair of threes scoring eight first quarter points to spark the Jackets and finished with 13-first half points, seven rebounds and three steals.

Also contributing impact efforts forM-W were: Jacob Barney (8 points. 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals), David Odendahl (10 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals), Alex Hammond (6 points, 6 rebounds) and Luke Miller (8 rebounds).

Zach Brock netted nine points and Brandon Vice buried a long three-pointers for the winners.

“The guys are improving. We’ve had some injuries but we are coming around,” said M-W Coach Aaron Jones.

Trevor Rolfe and Cody Merritt each netted nine points leading H-D.

Canton 69 - E-K 61: The Bears outscored the Cougars 43-34 in the second half where: Tom Christy hit three threes scoring 10 points, Louden Porter buried a three scoring seven points and Scott White netted eight of his 10 points.

Francesco Palumbo tallied 19 points to lead a balanced winning offense which also featured 11 points from Evan LaPoint who went 4-4 from the foul line in the fourth quarter where the Bears went 10 of 13 as a team.

Kaden Dandrow tallied a game-high 26 points for E-K and netted 11 in the fourth quarter leading a determined Cougar effort. Dan Pharoah tallied 15 points and Jeremiah Randell netted nine on three threes.

“Francesco Palumbo carried us in the first half but in the second half we did a great job sharing the ball. We had a 11 assists in the second half,” said Canton Coach Bill Porter.

“Their big men were very tough to control. You have to cover Kaden Dandrow all over the court and that created chances for Dan Pharoah who had a big game tonight.”

M-W and Canton will also meet in the JV championship games after wins over H-D and E-K. M-W prevailed 42-24 led by 16 points from Austin Delosh and 11 points from John Lenney.

Hunter Woodrow and Ryan Morrill scored five points for H-D.
