CANTON — State Supreme Court Justice David R. Demarest today authorized the transformation of E.J. Noble Hospital into Gouverneur Hospital by approving the sale of its assets and those of Kinney Nursing Home.

The purchase is expected to close Dec. 31, with operation by Gouverneur Hospital of E.J. Noble’s facilities expected to begin Jan. 1.

Gouverneur Hospital will operate under the auspices of parent organization St. Lawrence Health System, which also includes Canton-Potsdam Hospital.

“The healthcare system in St. Lawrence County just became a whole lot healthier,” St. Lawrence Health System CEO David B. Acker said in a statement. “Months of hard work and determination by people across the county and in Albany will soon be rewarded with the creation of a new, financially sustainable hospital and comprehensive healthcare system that will benefit our entire region for many years to come by continually rethinking and improving the way care is delivered to people of all ages.”
