GOUVERNEUR — Joshua P. Stone, 34, of County Route 46, Theresa, was charged Wednesday by state police with false personation and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, both misdemeanors, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.

Mr. Stone was arrested following a traffic stop on Barnes Street. Police allege that Mr. Stone, a back-seat passenger in the vehicle, provided them with a false name and was attempting to hide something underneath a blanket when they saw marijuana. The St. Lawrence County sheriff’s K-9 unit was called in and allegedly uncovered a baggie of crack cocaine in the back seat with Mr. Stone.

He was issued an appearance ticket for Gouverneur Town Court.
