Snowed-out vigil at South Lewis rescheduled for Thursday

TURIN — A candlelight vigil here that was snowed out last week has been rescheduled for Thursday.

The vigil, intended to honor the memory of a Turin man who died in a construction accident and other recent losses to the South Lewis community, is slated to begin at 7 p.m. in the parking lot at the South Lewis Middle-High School.

“Hope everyone can make it, and hopefully the weather will be on our side this time,” Tiffany Campanian, an event organizer, wrote on Facebook.

The event, planned following the death last month of Kyle M. Brown, 23, originally was slated for Dec. 11. However, an early-season snowstorm forced the cancellation of that event, as well as all other school-related activities that day.

Mr. Brown, who worked for MTL Design, Watertown, died Nov. 18 of injuries suffered in a fall at the F.X. Caprara construction site in Pulaski.

Ms. Campanian, a member of the South Lewis Class of 2008 with Mr. Brown and his twin sister, Amanda, has said the intent of the vigil is to “show our support to the family.”

Organizers also have decided to honor the memories of other South Lewis students or teachers who have died in recent years.

Plans are to set off Chinese lanterns for each of those people and have some lanterns available for attendees to purchase and release in honor of their lost loved ones.

Candles also will be sold for $1 apiece or given to anyone purchasing a $5 wristband honoring Mr. Brown’s memory.

All proceeds from the event, along with any donations, are to be given to the Brown family to start up a scholarship fund.
