Morristown, Hammond boys earn NAC West Division wins

Hammond and Morristown earned their first league wins of the Northern Athletic Conference West Division Boys Basketball season on Monday.

At Hammond, the Devils (2-1, 1-1) held off a Clifton-Fine 17-9 fourth quarter comeback for a 46-42 win.

At DeKalb Junction, Morristown opened a 20-8 first quarter lead and prevailed 68-39.

In a non-division girls game involving Hermon-DeKalb, the Demons won over Alexandria Bay.

Morristown 68, H-D 29:Devin Dulmage used several offensive putbacks converted off some nice passing from Ryan Vollmer, Jake VanArnam and Jacob Fox to score 24 points leading the Rockets.

Jacob Fox tallied 15 points while Zach Kanaly added 14. Reilly O’Donnell scored 15 and Cody Merritt added 12 points and seven rebounds for Hermon-DeKalb. Trevor Rolfe added five points.

“I like the way this year’s team doesn’t quit when things get rough. We showed a lot of poise despite getting down early,” said H-D coach Clay Denesha.

In JV action, Hermon-DeKalb won 57-11 over Morristown as Hunter Woodrow and Elliott Matthews each scored 12 and David Stiles added 11 for the winners. Lincoln Hall scored seven for Morristown. Hammond 46, Clifton-Fine 42: Brock Tully scored 16 points and Payton Frisina tallied nine leading Hammond. Zech Cunningham, Rogers and Nick Jewitt each scored six for the winners.

Chase Koster scored 12 for Clifton-Fine and Jake Folsom and Austin Locke each scored seven.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

H-D 65, Alexandria 31: Hunter Hitchman led all scorers with 21 points to pace the Demons to a nonleague victory at Alexandria.

Morgan Stott chipped in with 11 points for Hermon-DeKalb (2-0) which took a 44-12 lead at halftime. Courtney Harrington tallied nine, Bridget Rust and Kasey O’Donnell each scored eight and Delaney Kerr added seven in the win.

Lorraine Beard scored 12 points to lead the Purple Ghosts (2-1).
