A Madrid man was arrested by city police Monday night after he allegedly gave a false statement about being a victim of a robbery.

Billy J. Shannon, 21, of 1992 Route 310, was arrested at 9:55 p.m. at the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building after police said he reported to Officer Kenny C. Noone that he was a victim of a strong-arm robbery that occurred Monday at 900 Bronson St. and signed a sworn written statement making this claim, when in fact no such crime had occurred.

He was charged with third-degree falsely reporting an incident and making a punishable false written statement and held at the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building on $200 police bail pending arraignment in City Court.
