Massena, Potsdam boys net Central Division basketball wins

The Massena Central and Potsdam Central varsity boys basketball came away with NAC Central Division road wins on Monday.

Massena 59, Salmon River 29: At Fort Covington, the Raiders worked their way to a 33-16 halftime lead then put the game out of reach with an 18-6 third-quarter surge.

Xavier Viskovich netted a game-high 12 points in the winning effort followed by Logan Deshane with 11 and Rhoades Tarbell with 10. Tyler Haas chipped in nine, Zevon Viskovich six and Dan Wing four while Bailey LaBarge, McCartney Countryman and Dante Viskovich with two each and Rory Corcoran with a free throw.

Antoine Domino led Salmon River with 11 points. Jordan Wood added six followed by Kason Tarbell with four. Brandon Burdash and Tyler Brooks closed out the Shamrocks scoring with two points each.

Both teams return to action on Friday at home against Central Division rivals with Massena (2-0) taking on Canton and Salmon River (0-2) hosting Franklin Academy.

Potsdam 51, Canton 42: At Jerry Hourihan Gym in Canton, the Sandstoners gradually pulled away from a 21-20 halftime lead for their second straight league win to start the season.

Junior Dequan Pitts led the winning offense with 16 points. Classmate Jake Mitchell netted a pair of three-pointers in a 15-point effort and fellow junior Ethan Van Blommestein struck for another 10 points. Sophomore Brian Cole added seven points toward the winning effort followed by seniors Nick Vaccaro and Travis Stephenson with two and one point respectively.

Scott Wight anchored the Canton scoring with 10 points. Evan LaPoint tossed through another nine followed by Tommy Christy and Louden Porter with seven points each and Francesco Palumbo with four. Ryan Caldwell and Hunter Yerden closed out the Bears scoring with two points apiece.

The Sandstoners are slated to play at St. Lawrence Central on Thursday.

The other Central Division games on Monday saw OFA down St. Lawrence Central 92-36 and Franklin Academy halt Gouverneur 57-49.

OFA 92, SLC 36: In Ogdensburg, the host Blue Devils (3-1, 2-0) raced out to a 30-6 lead by the end of the first quarter as Kinnon LaRose fired through a game-high 23 points. Jack Manke added 12 points followed by Al Fisher with 11.

Josh White led the Larries (0-2, 0-2) with 10 points. Brody Simonds chipped in seven. Brady Francis and Nathan Arquette added six points each followed by Jayce Lanning with four and Skyler Burns with three.

The Larries host Potsdam on Thursday.

FA 57, Gouverneur 49: In Malone, Alex Johnson tossed through 19 points and Kody Mulverhill connected for another 12 as the Huskies (3-1, 1-1) turned back the Wildcats (0-2, 0-2).

Jordan LaPlante paced Gouverneur with 19 points followed by Troy Gates with 15.

WEST DIVISION

The two NAC West Division boys basketball games played on Monday saw Hammond outscore Clifton-Fine 46-42 and Morristown down Hermon-DeKalb 68-39.
