BEAVER FALLS — Melissa Hunt finished with 17 kills and 18 digs as Beaver River fought off six match points in the fifth and final game to outlast South Lewis in a tight Frontier League “C” Division volleyball match Friday night.

The Beavers won 25-16, 21-25, 13-25, 25-22, 29-27.

Madison Compton recorded 22 service points, 26 digs and six kills for the Beavers. Mallori Mattimore had 28 digs and five kills, and Keanna Proulx added 16 assists for Beaver River (2-1).

South Lewis fell to 2-1.

SANDY CREEK 3, BELLEVILLE HENDERSON 0

Gabby Guarasce contributed 13 assists and four aces to help lift the Comets to a 25-14, 25-21, 25-10 “C” Division victory at Belleville.

McKenna Guarasce chipped in with 13 kills and five blocks, while Autumn Darling supplied nine assists, and Maggie King added 15 service points and five digs for Sandy Creek (2-0).

Breanne Gilligan provided six points, and Haley Contryman handed out six assists for Belleville Henderson (0-2).

SOUTH JEFFERSON 3, GENERAL BROWN 0

Ellie Brooks distributed nine assists as the Spartans secured a 25-8, 25-17, 25-17 “B” Division victory at Adams.

Breanna LaFlesh hit six kills for South Jefferson (3-0). General Brown is 0-3.

BOYS SWIMMING

LOWVILLE 89, SOUTH LEWIS 70

On Thursday, Collin Stewart and Scott Bingle each won two races and contributed to a first-place relay during the Red Raiders’ Frontier League “B” Division victory at Turin.

Stewart captured the 50 and 500 freestyles, and Bingle took the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke for Lowville (2-0).

BOYS BASKETBALL

SANDY CREEK 85, SOUTH LEWIS 67

Tyler Swarthout scored 32 points, hitting seven 3-pointers, as the Comets pulled away late for a “C” Division win over the Falcons in Turin.

Zach Halsey added 20 points for Sandy Creek (2-0). Jason Martin paced South Lewis (1-1) with 22 points.

IHC 67, REGIOPOLIS NOTRE DAME 35

Robin Massey’s 20 points helped the Cavaliers rout the Panthers in the opening round of the Harrisville Tournament.

Miles Sexton supplied 11 points for Immaculate Heart Central (2-0), which will face Harrisville in the title game 8 p.m. today.

Regiopolis Notre Dame hails from Kingston, Ontario.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

SOUTH JEFFERSON 43, WATERTOWN 21

Austin Stevens scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to power the Spartans to a crossover victory over the host Cyclones.

Marisa Clark scored 13 for South Jefferson (2-0), which limited the Cyclones to just five baskets from the field.

Olivia Miles scored seven points to lead Watertown (2-3, 1-2).

GENERAL BROWN 57, IHC 33

Katie Pitkin scored 21 points to go with eight rebounds and four steals to lead the Lions past the Cavaliers in a crossover game at Dexter.

Hannah Smithers added 13 points and Emily Amell finished with six steals for General Brown (3-1, 2-1).

Rebecca Lazore led IHC (0-2) with 11 points.

COPENHAGEN 44, LAFARGEVILLE 21

Brooke Spaulding accounted for 15 points, six rebounds and four steals in the Golden Knights’ “D” Division victory over the Red Knights (0-4, 0-1) at Copenhagen.

Brianna Muncy grabbed 12 rebounds, and Maci Spaulding added seven rebounds and four steals for Copenhagen (1-1, 1-0).

LYME 62, ALEXANDRIA 51

The Indians outscored the Purple Ghosts 23-9 in the final quarter to earn a “D’’ Division win at Chaumont.

Yanna Ososkalo scored 28 points, hitting 11 free throws, for Lyme (3-0, 1-0).

Allison Tarwater made six 3-pointers and scored 20 points, Taylor Brown had 11 rebounds and six assists and Enesa Ososkalo contributed seven rebounds and five steals.

Lorraine Beard scored 27 points and Hannah Lynch added 12 for Alexandria (1-1).

HOCKEY

IHC 8, ONTARIO BAY 1

Sean Shepard scored twice in the first eight minutes and finished with a hat trick and two assists to lead the Cavaliers past the Storm in the first round of the Ontario Bay Tournament in Pulaski.

Jared Pignone provided two goals and an assist and goalie Grant Chamberlain stopped 12 shots for Immaculate Heart Central (2-1), which will play in today’s title game against either Liverpool or Mohawk Valley. Ontario Bay dropped to 0-2.

ISLANDERS 7, TUPPER LAKE 0

Jordan VanBrocklin’s two second-period goals helped the Islanders blank the Lumberjacks (0-2) in its Northern Athletic Conference Division II opener at Clayton.

The Islanders (1-0) pulled away with five third-period goals.
