POTSDAM - The heated Clarkson - St. Lawrence University hockey rivalry has traditionally led to some interesting moments on the ice and in the stands at Walker Arena, the Cheel Campus Center and Appleton Arena.

The game was no different Friday night when Clarkson skated away with a 5-4 victory, with a skirmish in the game’s final seconds sent several players to the penalty box, sometimes known in hockey circles as the sin bin.

But one fan wasn’t on hand to see the end of the game, and his alleged behavior during the game’s first period ended in a night spent in the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility.

Village police charged Edward H. Berke, 20, of Bow, N.H., with disorderly conduct, obstruction of governmental administration and resisting arrest after responding to a complaint of a person acting disorderly at 7:45 p.m. Friday at the Clarkson-St. Lawrence University hockey game at Cheel Arena. Police said Berke resisted when an officer attempted to place him under arrest for the disorderly conduct. He was arraigned by Acting Potsdam Village Justice Margaret Garner and was sent to the St. Lawrence County Correctional with bail set at $1,000 cash or $2,000.00 bond.

Berke, according to a web search, is a junior at St. Lawrence University.
