POTSDAM Clarkson University mens hockey team struck for three goals in the third period to defeat St. Lawrence University, 5-4, on Friday night in an ECAC Hockey game.
The Saints had a 3-2 lead through two periods, but the Golden Knights scored three times in less than six minutes to take the advantage for good.
Jarrett Burton scored the tying goal six minutes, nine seconds into the final period for No. 10-ranked Clarkson (11-3-1, 5-2-0), which tallied three goals with a span of 5:13 to take control.
The Golden Knights, who extended their unbeaten streak against the Saints in league play to seven games (6-0-1), improved to 8-1-1 against St. Lawrence (8-7-2, 2-3-2) in the past 10 meetings.
Jeff DiNallo and Troy Josephs scored 25 seconds apart for Clarksons final two goals.
The Saints pulled within a goal on Matt Careys tally with 2:01 left.
Carey and Jeremy Wick each scored twice for St. Lawrence.
Goalie Greg Lewis made 17 saves to record the win for Clarkson. Saints netminder Matt Weninger stopped 18 of 23 shots faced.
The two teams will meet again at 7 tonight at St. Lawrence.
