MASSENA Trudian Simmonds, 31, Springfield, Mass., was sentenced Tuesday in U.S. District Court, Albany, to seven days time served and five months of home detention for transporting an undocumented alien near here.
According to the U.S. Attorneys office, Ms. Simmonds entered the United States from Canada alone at the Massena port of entry on Aug. 9, 2012. She then drove to a parking lot on the Akwesasne Mohawk Indian reservation, where she picked up a Jamaican citizen who had illegally entered the country from Canada earlier that day. She was transporting the man away from the border area when she was stopped and arrested by U.S. Border Patrol agents.
She was found guilty of transporting the alien following a three-day jury trial in May.
