COPENHAGEN — A draft management plan for the Tug Hill North unit will be presented to the public Wednesday in the Copenhagen Central School cafeteria, 3020 Mechanic St.

According to a news release issued by the state Department of Environmental Conservation, “The Tug Hill North Unit Management Plan creates a detailed inventory and management strategy for the natural resources present on the unit. ... While no major changes are proposed for the management of these resources, the plan addresses them to ensure they are maintained at least at their current level.”

The plan lists goals for 10 years, including management of plant species.

State forests in Lewis and Jefferson counties in Harrisburg, Martinsburg, Montague, Pinckney, Lorraine, Rodman, Rutland and Worth are part of the plan. The land is used for hunting and fishing with trails used for hiking, cross-country skiing, cycling, snowmobiling and horseback riding.

The unit consists of 9,470 acres of classified and unclassified wetlands as well as 180 miles of classified and unclassified streams.

The meeting will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. There will be an open house format for the first half hour in which guests may discuss the draft plan with DEC staff members. A presentation will follow at 7 p.m. with public comments afterward.

The plan can be viewed at http://wdt.me/MoPCtY.
