David Egeressy, 66, of Clayton passed away Monday, November 18, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family and under the care of Hospice of Jefferson County after a 5 year battle with lung cancer.

A funeral service will be held Friday, November 22, at noon at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Clayton with Pastor Donald Briant officiating. There will be no calling hours.

David was born August 9, 1947 in Bridgeport, CT to the late Paul and Helen Wargo Egeressy. He attended Andrew Warde High School, Fairfield, CT. David served with the US Army 1968 to 1970, with a tour of duty in Vietnam.

He married Gail DellaRocco May 22, 1971 at Holy Rosary Church, Bridgeport, CT.

David was employed by Southern New England Telephone Company, retiring after 26 years.

It was always his dream to own a farm. In June 1996 he and his wife purchased a farm in Decatur, NY which he took great pride in. In 2005 he was elected Hwy. Supt. for the Town of Decatur, retiring in 2009 due to illness. At that time he and his wife sold the farm and moved to Clayton to be closer to family.

David enjoyed hunting, fishing, and doing carpentry. But mostly he enjoyed working in his vegetable garden, helping his daughter in her greenhouse, and spending time with his grandchildren. He also was a member of the VFW Klock-Smith Post, LaFargeville.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Gail; his daughter and her husband, Sheri and Tyler Strock, LaFargeville; two grandchildren, Taylor and Travis Strock; two sisters, Barbara Gazdik, CT and Roberta and Michael Yatsinko, TN; brother-in-law, Kenneth DellaRocco, CT; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Hospice of Jefferson County, 1398 Gotham St., Watertown, NY 13601. Online condolences may be made at http://www.cummingsfuneral.com/.
