CANTON — SUNY Canton has placed the Zeta Alpha Phi fraternity and all of its members on interim suspension because of suspected hazing, according to a new release issued by the college Wednesday evening.

The incident reportedly occurred last week at an off-campus, non-sanctioned residence, according to the college. University and Canton village police are interviewing fraternity members. Details of the incident were unavailable.

The college is reviewing the fraternity, and the students face a campus judicial board hearing to determine whether they may remain at the college.

“I am disgusted and appalled by the alleged actions of some of the members of Zeta Alpha Phi,” SUNY Canton Acting President Joseph C. Hoffman stated in the release.

No other campus fraternities or sororities have been implicated, Dean of Students Courtney B. Bish said.

Anyone who wishes to report abuse, hazing or bullying is encouraged to call SUNY Canton University Police at 386-7777.
