CANTON — U.S. News and World Report has named St. Lawrence University as a top-performing school for low-income students.

The study identified these students as those eligible to receive federal Pell grants.

At St. Lawrence University, low-income students graduate at nearly the same rate as their peers, the report found.

The college attributed the success to its rigorous admission standards and the support services available on campus.

Low-income students make up 18.4 percent of the college population. About 30 percent of students from the north country receive Pell grants.
