LIVERPOOL Jake Fusillis first-half goal stood up and Immaculate Heart Central won a trip to the state semifinals with a 1-0 victory over Margaretville on Saturday in a Class D boys soccer quarterfinal at Liverpool High School.
IHC (16-3-1), making its first state appearance since 1988, received an assist from Austin Renzi on the winning goal.
Jarrod Smith made 11 saves against Section 4s Margaretville (18-1) for the shutout.
In a state Class C girls quarterfinal, Section 4s Lansing beat Section 3 champion Beaver River 2-0, in a game played in Norwich.
The Beavers allowed their first goal in five postseason games as Maura McCartney scored an unassisted goal in the opening minute for the Bobcats (19-0).
Kassie Reimer then scored in the 24th minute for Lansing.
Goalie Mariah Abel finished with 12 saves for Beaver River (10-7-3).
In other state Class D quarterfinal games involving north country teams, Section 7s Chazy defeated Section 10s Harrisville 10-0 in a boys game. Chazy also beat Section 10s Chateaugay 3-1 in a girls game.
