The funeral service to celebrate the life of Margaret Rose Shaffer of County Route 62 Watertown will be at noon at the Stone Presbyterian Church on Tuesday. Internment will be in Brookside Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday from 2-4 and 7-8 p.m. at TLC Funeral Home, Inc. Mrs. Shaffer died at her home on November 7, 2013.
She was born on March 9, 1939 in Buffalo, NY the daughter of James H. and Janet Lauderdale Cosgrove McGregor. She graduated from Riverside High School in Buffalo and spent one year at the Westminster Presbyterian College before transferring to Buffalo State College where she received her masters degree in education. She married Walter W. Shaffer on June 27, 1970 at the First Presbyterian Church in Buffalo, NY.
Mrs. Shaffer was an elementary teacher at School 52 and would later become the principal of the school. After moving to the north country, she taught remedial math at Sackets Harbor Central until she retired in 1997.
She enjoyed reading romance novels, watching crime shows, had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to bake using her special recipe for the pie crusts. Mrs. Shaffer was a girl scout leader from 1976-1990.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Roswell Park Cancer Treatment Center, 665 Elm Street, Buffalo, NY 14202.
Surviving besides her husband Walter are her daughter, Dr. Laura Jen Shaffer of Greenbelt, Maryland and her son and daughter in law William and Kelly Shaffer of Oklahoma City, OK and a sister Mary Houston McGregor-Baginski of Stone Mountain, GA and several nieces and nephews.
