A corrections officer has been arrested on three felony charges, accused of collecting $16,124 from the state’s insurance and workers’ compensation fund by providing false documentation of an on-duty injury at the Watertown Correctional Facility.

Corrections officer Steven M. Laplaca, 51, address unavailable, was charged Monday with third-degree grand larceny, first-degree falsifying business records and workers’ compensation fraud.

The purported injury was documented as occurring at the prison April 13 while Mr. Laplaca was responding to an alarm. He returned to work July 1, state police said.

State police in Watertown assisted the state inspector general’s office in the arrest.

Mr. Laplaca was arraigned in Watertown Town Court and released on his own recognizance, pending grand jury action.

State police did not release any additional information Tuesday.
