DANBURY, Conn. — Tim Richter’s goal and two assists and Mike Brown’s 33 saves helped defending Federal Hockey League champion Danbury to 4-0 win over the Watertown Privateers in the season-opener for both teams on Saturday.

Cody Ayers and Robert Vanwynsberghe provided first-period goals and Ryan Dolance assisted on both for Danbury (1-0). Ryan Patsch rounded out the scoring in the third for the Whalers.

Matt Anthony stopped 29 shots for Watertown (0-1).

The Whalers hoisted the championship banner from the 2012-13 season before the start of the game.

The Privateers play host to the Danville Dashers at 7:35 p.m. Friday at the Watertown Municipal Ice Arena for the team’s home opener.
