POTSDAM — The Clarkson University women’s team dominated the game statistically but settled for a 1-1 tie with Brown in an ECAC Hockey game Friday at Cheel Arena.

Clarkson (6-2-2 overall, 1-1-1 conference) outshot the Bears 54-11, including a 29-1 advantage in the third period and overtime.

But the lone goal for the Golden Knights came from Jamie Lee Rattray at 13 minutes, 35 seconds of the first period.

Brown (1-1-1, 0-0-1) tied the game with a goal from Ariana Rucker at 4:50 of the second period.

ST. LAWRENCE 4, YALE 1

Three goals in the final period helped St. Lawrence (3-6, 2-1) hold off Yale in an ECAC Hockey game in Canton.

Rylee Smith scored in the first period for SLU, and Jessica Hon, Kirsten Padalis and Ellie Williams added goals in the third period.

Kate Martini scored for the Bulldogs (0-3, 0-1).

MEN’S HOCKEY

SUNY PLATTSBURGH 3, SUNY POTSDAM 0

Mathieu Cadieux stopped 14 shots to help the Cardinals shut out the Bears (0-1) in a SUNYAC game in Plattsburgh.

Nick Jensen, Patrick Hermans and Dillan Fox scored for SUNY Plattsburgh (1-0).

SUNY CANTON 2, NEW ENGLAND 2 (OT)

Ryan Quinn scored at 10:11 of the second period to give the University of New England a tie with SUNY Canton in a nonconference game in Canton, which was the opening contest for both teams.

Zach Lokey also scored for New England. Dave Schneider and Austin Root scored for the Kangaroos.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

GENESEE CC 86, JEFFERSON CC 71

Ervin Mitchell scored 21 points to power the Cougars past the Cannoneers in the first round of the Mohawk Valley CC Tournament in Utica.

It was the season opener for both teams.

Jagger Freeman and Dustin Pond scored 25 and 20 points, respectively, to lead Jefferson Community College. Freeman made 13 of 16 free throws and Pond drained six 3-pointers for JCC, which will play Queensbury at noon today in the consolation game.

VOLLEYBALL

KANGAROOS SEASON ENDS

Daemen swept SUNY Canton 25-13, 25-14, 25-20 in a quarterfinal match in the USCAA Championships to eliminate the host Kangaroos (28-9).

Morgan Bills led SUNY Canton with six kills and Mackenzie Mynter produced 18 assists.

Earlier in the day SUNY Canton dropped two matches in pool play, falling 25-19, 25-20 to Rochester College and 25-19, 25-20 to Florida College.

CLARKSON SWEEPS, SLU FALLS

Clarkson (30-6) won two matches in three games on the opening day of the New York Regional Challenge in Rochester.

The Golden Knights swept Rochester 25-17, 25-10, 25-12 and swept the Stevens Institute of Technology 26-24, 25-15, 25-13.

Victoria Kirkemo produced 23 kills overall for Clarkson and Lani Durio led the Golden Knights with 50 assists.

St. Lawrence University (20-10) fell 25-18, 25-19, 25-16 to New York University in its only match.

SWIMMING AND DIVING

SLU WOMEN WIN, MEN LOSE

Olivia Rettstatt and Nikki Jewett each won two events to help the Saints defeat host Skidmore 137 1/2-93 1/2. The Saints men fell 134-90, falling to 0-2.

Rettstatt won the 1,000-meter freestyle and the 500 freestyle for the Saints (1-1). Jewett added wins in both the one- and three-meter diving competitions.
