Denzel Barnes and Dustin Sharritt each scored two touchdowns as top-seeded Indian River advanced to the Section 3 Class A football championship with a 31-14 semifinal win over No. 4 Jamesville-DeWitt on Friday night at Watertown High School.

Barnes scored on runs of 1 and 16 yards in the third quarter as the Warriors (8-1) pulled away from a 7-7 halftime tie. Sharritt’s two scores came on runs of 8 yards in the first quarter and 2 yards in the fourth quarter.

Indian River will play No. 3 Carthage for the title at 6 p.m. Saturday in the Carrier Dome. The Comets (8-1) upset No. 2 East Syracuse-Minoa 43-36 in the other semifinal in Fulton.

In the Class D semifinals in Rome, defending champion and No. 5 seed Sandy Creek advanced with a 35-14 victory over No. 8 Dolgeville. The Comets play No. 3 Herkimer for the championship at noon Saturday in the Carrier Dome.
