High winds this morning knocked down power lines and caused scattered power outages in St. Lawrence County, including a large portion of the village of Canton.
Power in much of the eastern part of Canton was knocked out mid-morning including the Canton Central School District and the county courthouse.
Interim County Emergency Services Director Keith J. Zimmerman said three power poles were knocked down, causing the outage at Cantons State Street substation.
A substantial part of the village is out, Mr. Zimmerman said.
National Grid crews are supposed to restore power to Canton within the next hour, Mr. Zimmerman said.
Scattered outages have also been reported in Norwood, near Ogdensburg and Black Lake, he said.
The wind gusts are expected to get stronger as the day goes on, Mr. Zimmerman said.
