CANTON - St. Lawrence Universitys womens cross country team became the first in the nation to have two National Athlete of the Week award winners in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Associations weekly program.
Senior Amy Cymerman completed a career grand slam of major New York State championship races on Saturday when she won the 2013 New York State College Track Conference championship in a course record time of 21:54.3 and was named Division III womens Athlete of the Week by the USTFCCA.
Also the Liberty League runner of the week, she joins Ariel Beccia as Saints who have earned the national award.
Cymerman was runner-up in the NYSCTC championship last season, but went on to win both the Liberty League and the NCAA Atlantic Regional individual championships. She will be out to repeat those titles in the next three weeks and help the Saints continue a string of team titles. Cymerman and the Saints will run at the Liberty League championship at Bard this weekend. Cymerman ran the fastest 6 kilometers in league history in winning at Clarkson last year, helping the Saints capture their 11th straight Liberty League title. The Atlantic Regional race will follow at Geneseo on Nov. 16.
