WEST LEYDEN — An accident involving a school bus and an Amish buggy at Kirk and Statzer roads sent one woman to the hospital at 8:43 a.m. Tuesday.

Lewis County sheriff’s deputies said bus driver Joseph J. Mihalko was making a left turn onto Kirk Road when he struck the rear of an Amish buggy driven by Laura Yoder, 22, Ava.

Following the accident, Mrs. Yoder’s horse ran out of control down Statzer Road, causing the buggy, also occupied by Ms. Yoder’s two children, to overturn.

The school bus driver, students and Yoder children were not injured.

Mrs. Yoder was taken to Rome Hospital with a shoulder injury.
