MADRID - Brushton-Moira secured a 1-1 NAC East Girls Soccer tie in the 54th minute of play on Wednesday at at Madrid-Waddington when Kendra Mills redirected a feed from Lindsay McKernan. The Panthers (8-3-4, 7-3-3) maintained the tie as Ashley Debeer made 12 saves.
Amelia Bailey scored unassisted in the first half for 5-7-2, 5-6-1 Madrid-Waddington. Marlena Bush (four saves) and Arianna Ramsey (six saves, second half) combined in goal for the Yellowjackets.
Madrid-Waddington held off a third game rally by Gouverneur to sweep the host Wilcats 25-13, 25-7, 25-23 in NAC West Volleyball action on Monday.
Dia Richards had 14 points and three kills in the winning effort andd Ashley Curran added nine points and two sets. Seniors Hannah Austin (6 digs), Brittani Dawley (6 sets) and Janelle Trombley (5 digs) closed out their NAC careers with four service points each.
The Lady Yellowjackets finished the regular season with a 5-11 overall record and will now gear up for the Section 10 Class D playoffs which get underway on Monday. They will likely be on the road against Edwards-Knox. Chateaugay, Brushton-Moira and Tupper Lake are the other three Class D squads.
For the Wildcats, Mallory Austin produced 25 sets, three assists, six points, one ace and one kill while Raenelle Durham had three kills, two blocks, and two points. Autumn Ashley chipped in six sets, one assist, four points and one dig while Tee LaBrake added two points, one dig, one kill, and one ace.
Canton 1, Gouverneur 0: In their division finale the Bears (12-4, 10-4 NAC Central) tied Potsdam (11-2-2, 9-2-2 NAC Central) for the Central lead. The Stoners complete divisional play today.
Emily Pinckney scored the only goal of the game from Lauren Smith in the 68th minute of play. Katie Clemmer made six saves for the Bears and Taylor Andrews stopped 19 shots for Gouverneur (11-5-1, 8-5-1).
Potsdam 3, Malone 2: The Lady Huskies (13-3) built a 2-1 lead through the first three sets by scores of 25-19, 12-25, 25-22 before Potsdam battled back to tie the interdivisional volleyball match with wins of 25-21, 25-15. Victoria Mondragon led the Lady Sandstoners with 21 service points, including six aces, and seven kills. Elna Daby served up another 15 points while Sarah Vivlamore generated 10 points, four aces, one kill, 82 sets and 13 assists. For the Lady Huskies, Rachel Lamica tallied 24 kills, 14 points, five aces and four blocks.
