MASSENA - Members of the Massena Valley Garden Club recently finished this years planting of daffodil bulbs.
This group planted 600 bulbs in front of the Housing Authority on Route 37.
This group and other members also recently planted 2,000 bulbs around Massena. They planted in front of the village garage, in the triangle at the intersection of East Orvis and Route 37 and had help from Roy Rivard to plant in front of the planters at the entrance to Homecroft on North Main Street.
Charlie and Eileen Boots introduced this idea of planting the bulbs in our town after they visited Bruges, Belgium. They told the Garden Club how beautiful and uplifting it was to see this bright color in the spring. They showed pictures of the city of Bruges and the club members agreed to purchase the bulbs each year and help to plant them here in Massena.
This has been an ongoing project in Massena for a few years now. Charlie and Eileen have led the project and have always been present for the plantings.
Each year the Garden Club dedicates the years booklet to someone or some organization which has shown a real interest in helping in the clubs community projects. This year the booklet was dedicated to Charlie and Eileen Boots in appreciation of their time and efforts planting daffodils to beautify Massena.
