PORT LEYDEN — Two people were injured early Saturday morning after a car wandered into the path of a tractor-trailer on Route 12 in the town of Leyden.

At approximately 5:45 a.m., Ramona C. Schwendler, 49, of Moose River Road, was driving her 2007 Dodge Avenger south on Route 12 when the vehicle drifted into the northbound lane and was struck by a 2005 Freightliner tractor-trailer driven by Glen M. Cooke, 55, of Barrie, Ontario.

Ms. Schwendler was transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Utica for treatment while Mr. Cook was transported via Port Leyden ambulance to Lewis County General Hospital, deputies said.

An investigation into the accident continues, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
