HAMMOND - Heading into the final stretch run of the Northern Athletic Conference West Division Boys Soccer campaign, the Hammond Boys Soccer rebounded from two straight losses with a 4-3 decision over Heuvelton on Friday.
The Red Devils (4-9-1, 4-7-1 NAC West) scored three straight goals in the first half and scored their fourth quickly in the second half against the Bulldogs (4-8-2, 3-7-2 NAC West) looking to better their playoff position.
Meanwhile in other NAC West Friday play, Lisbon (11-2-1, 10-1-1 21 points) stayed two points back of Harrisville (12-1-1, 11-0-1 23 points) with a vital 3-1 victory at Edwards-Knox while Morristown (9-3 18 points) rebounded from a setback to Golden Knights on Wednesday in a 4-0 decision over Clifton-Fine (0-13-1, 0-12).
Hammond 4, Heuvelton 3: The Red Devils (4-9-1, 4-7-1) exploded early in the contest scoring three times in the first nine minutes against the Bulldogs (4-8-2, 3-7-2 NAC West).
We came out and we were ready to play, said Hammond coach Katina Dillon.
Alex Folkesson just had a super game.
Folkesson scored unassisted just a minute into the game and Brock Tulley connected two minutes later for a 2-0 lead. Folkesson made it 3-0 unassisted in the 9th for Hammond.
Lucas Brown ended Hammonds Nick Jewitt shutout for Heuvelton in the 11th minute.
In the second half, Folkesson scored his third for a hat trick in the 40th but Heuvelton fired back as Joe McDonnell and Noah Steele both connected unassisted in the 74th and 78th.
Jewitt made 14 saves for Hammond. Zach Lashomb stopped 12 shots for Heuvelton.
Lisbon 3, Edwards-Knox 1: In Russell, the Golden Knights (11-2-1, 10-1-1) used a big save early in the first half by Jimmy Robinson (four saves) and an offensive surge in the second half against the host Cougars (6-6-1, 5-6).
We could have been down 1-0 but Jimmy made a big stop for us. We picked things up in the second half. Adam Kelley got us going and Connor Hammond did a great job at midfield off the bench, said LCS coach Bill Reed.
Pedro Janini scored from Kelley in the 41st minute for Lisbon but Edwards-Knox quickly answered on a goal from Hunter Tuttle assisted by Connor Gotham. Jake Putney scored from Kelley in the 50th for the game winning goal and Kelley followed unassisted for insurance in the 56th for the Knights.
Richard Finnerty made seven saves for Edwards-Knox.
Morristown 4, Clifton-Fine 0: At Morristown, the Rockets started to take control midway through the first half against the Eagles.
Jake VanArnam opened scoring in the 20th minute from Ryan Vollmer. Zach Kanaly made it 2-0 from Vollmer in the 31st before Vollmer closed out the first half two minutes later from Kanaly.
We played pretty well but Clifton-Fine has improved a lot since our first meeting, said Morristown coach George Beaulieu. We just need to keep improving and to get healthy for that second season.
Devin Dulmage scored unassisted in the 49th minute for his only point of the game as Luke King made four saves for the 9-3 Rockets.
Jordan Planty stopped 22 shots for 0-13-1, 0-12 Clifton-Fine.
