More time has been granted to help identify and honor Ogdensburgs best.
The deadline for the Greater Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce annual awards nominations - Citizen of the Year, Business Improvement and Outstanding Community Service - has been extended from Oct. 16 to Oct. 23.
Theyre still coming in, Chamber Executive Director Sandra M. Porter said of the nominees in all three categories.
The three recipients will be honored at the chambers annual dinner on Nov. 8.
Ms. Porter said it was an incorrect perception that the Citizen of the Year award is exclusive and reserved for prominent people.
For the most part, theyre regular people, she said.
Past Citizen of the Year winners are: 2012, Dave Shea; 2011, Glory Martel; 2010 Charles W. Kelly; 2009, Keith Robinson; 2008, Ken Cole; 2007, Joseph Cosentino; 2006, Debbie Abel; 2005, Frank Bateman; 2004; William Seymour Jr.; 2003, Mort and Marie Backus; 2002, Danny L. Duprey; 2001, Mr. and Mrs. Frank ODonoghue and Mr. and Mrs. Robert ODonoghue; and 2000, Sally Palao. The award has been given since 1984.
Past Business Improvement award recipients are: 2012, Ogdensburg Dance Center and Salon 1020; 2011, Phoenix on the Bay; 2010, White Gate Inn; 2009, Lynn and David Blevins for their Ford Street apartment building; 2008, Parkway Travel Center; 2007, United Helpers; 2006, Ed-Med Federal Credit Union; and 2005, Frary Funeral Home.
Past Outstanding Community Service award recipient are: 2012, Carlisle, Carrothers and Clough law firm; 2011, Roethel family; 2010 Jules of Life Foundation; 2009, Ogdensburg Garden Club; 2008, Gail Perkins, Showtime; 2007, Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center Auxiliary; 2006, Fort LaPresentation; and 2005, Betty Wood.
