CHATEAUGAY - The Madrid-Waddington varsity boys soccer team moved one win away from clinching sole possession of the NAC East Division banner on Friday after gaining a 1-0 decision on the road over Chateaugay.

With the win, the Yellowjackets improved to 10-0-2 atop the league standings and 11-1-2 overall while sinking the Bulldogs to 9-2-1 in the East and 10-3-1 overall. Both teams have two games left on their regular season schedules.

Kaden Pickering delivered an unassisted goal in the fifth minute to account for the only goal of the game.

T.J. Gagnon fielded two shots for the shutout while Jason Trombley made two saves in the losing cause.

In the other NAC East Division matchups on Friday, Parishville-Hopkinton blanked Brushton-Moira 3-0, Norwood-Norfolk clipped Colton-Pierrepont 1-0 and St. Regis Falls outlasted St. Lawrence Central 4-3.

P-H 3, B-M 0: In Moira, Preston Frank finished off a play set up by Justin Frank 16 minutes into the game for what would stand as the game-winner. Lucas Snell made it 2-0 midway through the second half when he converted on a penalty kick. Preston Frank closed out the scoring with 10 minutes left off an assist from Joey Jacot.

Kobe Wells made eight saves backstopping the shutout as the Panthers moved to 9-2-3 overall and 7-2-3 in the East. Taylor Tallman fielded six shots for B-M (1-8-3).

N-N 1, C-P 0: At Swift Field in South Colton, Ian St. Andrews broke through for the only goal of the game with less than two minutes left in the first half and the visiting Flyers made it stand for the win.

Garrett Waite posted six saves for N-N (7-6-1, 6-5-1) while Bruce Avery stopped three shots for the Colts (3-9-2, 3-7-2).

SRF 4, SLC 3: At Brasher Falls, the visiting Saints built a 3-1 halftime lead then held off the Larries in the second half to come away with the win.

Nick Kowalchuk opened the scoring for the Larries nine minutes into the game assisted by Blake Hence and Kody Kocsis but the Saints countered with three straight goals. Brandon Votra tied the game in the 24th minute assisted by Louis Goodrow then made it 2-1 three minutes later with an unassisted goal before Goodrow closed out the first-half with an unassisted goal of his own in the 37th minute.

Tyler Kowalchuk pulled the Larries back to within one in the 16th minute of the second half with an unassissted goal but Votra completed his hattrick just three minutes later off an assist from Ryan Duquette. Kocsis made it 4-3 with 9:46 left in regulation assisted by Cody Meacham.

Mike Smith handled 25 of the shots he faced working the SRF (4-7-1) crease for the win while Hadyn St. Hilaire posted 23 saves tending the Larries’ goal.

SLC (1-11-1, 1-10-1) returns to action on Tuesday at home against Brushton-Moira.
