MORRISTOWN - As far as the NAC West Division Boys Soccer race was concerned, on Wednesday, Morristown hosted Lisbon in a “staying alive game” for both teams in their chase of Harrisville.

Lisbon (9-1-1 19 points) came away with 1-0 victory on the strength of a second half by Koby Jordan, reversed their only loss in division play and closed within two points of 10-0-1 Harrisville.

And the Knights are headed to Edwards-Knox on Friday for another must win according to Lisbon Coach Bill Reed.

“We played a lot of very good soccer today. But we just didn’t finish well,” said Reed after the Knights fashioned a 15-8 shots on goal advantage and a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.

“It was a big win. But we have to win at Edwards-Knox on Friday, which is always a tough game for us, and get a win at home against Hammond to keep things interesting for our final division game at Harrisville.”

Morristown slipped to 8-3-0 (16 points) in the NAC West and Coach George Beaulieu said that thetop priority for the Rockets was to get healthy.

“We only had 12 guys today and we have four guys banged up. But that is the way it goes in a small school,” said Beaulieu.

“It was a great game today and our guys played hard right to the end. The guys are working hard and they are coming on.”

Jordan scored the lone goal of the day 6:32 into the second half when he took a pass from Adam Kelley and placed a shot out of the reach of Morristown keeper Luke King.

James Richards supplied a series turn-in passes from outside halfback for the Rockets who enjoyed some promising buildups but were limited to a precious few close range chances against Lisbon keeper Jimmy Robinson (6 saves).

“Cody James at sweeper and Ryan Buckley at stopper really had strong games and Reiley Alberto made some nice things happen playing at center midfield,” said Reed.

“Koby Jordan placed the shot well that he scored on and Kane Jordan did some nice things on the outside.”

Potsdam 4, Massena 3 (OT): the host Sandstoners built a 2-0 lead by halftime and went ahead by three goals early in the second before the Raiders came storming back to force overtime.

Ian Vitek opened the scoring 16 minutes into the game off an assist from Matt Stone. Pat Normandin netted the second Potsdam goal in the 27th minute assisted by Dylan Gruneisen before Ebuka Ononye pushed the lead to 3-0 in the fifth minute of the second half by finishing off a play set up by Vitek.

Jordan Robert sparked the Massena comeback when he converted from Dylan Stone just two minutes after the third Potsdam goal then cut the deficit to 3-2 five minutes later with an unassisted marker. Junior Zach Kozsan capped the Raider rally by knocking the ball into the back of the net through a goalmouth scramble with five minutes left in regulation.

Ononye kept Massena from coming way with a point when he connected from Dylan Emerson three minutes into the first 10-minute overtime and the Sandstoners made it stand for the dramatic win.

Ashler Herrick made seven saves working the Potsdam crease through the first half and the 20 minutes of overtime while Jack Byrnes handled another seven shots in the second half.

Cameron Marsh and Brendan Broderick combined to record 15 stops backstopping the Raider effort.
