Star Lake residents must boil water

STAR LAKE — A leak in the Star Lake water distribution system was repaired late Wednesday afternoon and Clifton-Fine Central School is expected to reopen today.

However, water use is still restricted and a boil-water order remains in effect until further notice.

“We’re asking everyone to conserve until we get the tanks filled back up,” Fine Supervisor Mark C. Hall said.

Crews spent the day excavating to find the leak, which turned out to be near the main, Mr. Hall said.

The leak caused low water pressure, which can allow contaminants into the system.

The boil-water notice remains in effect until results of testing for coliform bacteria is satisfactory from samples collected on two consecutive days.
