A house at 16450 County Route 62, town of Hounsfield, was damaged by a chimney fire Monday night.
The unidentified occupants and a passing Henderson Ambulance crew both called 911 at 8:37 p.m. to report the fire.
Fire investigators were looking at a malfunction of a wood-burning stove as the cause of the blaze, said Deputy Director Frederick D. Lampman of the Jefferson County Office of Fire and Emergency Management.
Damage was contained to chimney and roof, Mr. Lampman said.
The Sackets Harbor Fire Department was joined by town of Watertown, Smithville and Brownville firefighters in responding to the call.
