The St. Lawrence University womens cross country team swept Liberty League honors after its performance at the Ronald C. Hoffman Invitational on Saturday in Canton.
SLU senior Ariel Beccia was named league top performer, while freshman Lisa Grohn was named league rookie of the week. Beccia set a school-record of 21 minutes, 45.72 seconds on the 6-kilometer course on her way to a first-place finish. Grohn finished 19th with a time of 24:10.31.
St. Lawrence University football player and former Malone standout Mitch Gallagher was awarded Liberty League rookie of the week after catching five passes for 38 yards and two touchdowns in its 20-13 win over Rensselaer on Saturday. The Saints have won the last three rookie of the week awards.
Clarkson University sophomore Victoria Kirkemo was picked as Liberty League volleyball performer of the week. Kirkemo generated 24 kills and 13 kills in a win over the University of Chicago on Saturday.
SLU junior goalkeeper Aaron Costello earned Liberty League defensive performer of the week after posting consecutive shutouts over RIT and SUNY Canton.
■ Ariel Beccia was also named the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division III Athlete of the Week for her performance Saturday. Beccia is the first runner in program history to be honored by the USTFCCCA.
