DEFERIET — The village Board of Trustees made plans for upcoming events at its Oct. 2 meeting.

During the public comment segment, Christopher Anderson approached the board with questions since he is considering purchasing the former credit union building on Riverside Drive. He was referred to the Planning Board.

A pig roast fundraiser is set for Saturday to benefit the village fire department and playground equipment fund. Douglas Babcock will donate the pigs and the event will be held at the fire station starting at noon. The date marks the close of Fire Prevention Week and the department will have educational displays. Sides of salt potatoes, cole slaw, a roll and cupcake will be included with each dinner at a cost of $10. There also will be raffles.

Trustees decided to take the higher of two unsealed bids received for a 6-by-12-foot utility trailer that had been part of the village’s surplus item sale. Timothy Fahsel of Watertown purchased the trailer for $400, outbidding Mike Shannon of Redwood, who offered $375. No decision was made on what to do with other unsold surplus items, including a zero-turn lawn mower, lumber, carpeting and paving blocks.

The village is seeking a green rebate from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority for recent work replacing the aeration system at its wastewater treatment plant.

The village will host its annual Halloween party on Thursday, Oct. 31, following trick-or-treating from 5 to 7 p.m. The party at the municipal building, 68 Riverside Drive, will include costume contests and refreshments of cider and doughnuts. The gathering is open to village residents of all ages.

There also will be a Veterans Day celebration at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 10 at the municipal building to honor active duty military members and veterans. The Carthage Central School Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps will be part of the ceremony and refreshments will be served.

The board approved meeting changes, with meetings set for Dec. 2 and Jan. 8.
