Godfrey M. Dugas, 81, of 23359 County Rt. 47, Carthage passed October 3, 2013 at the Jefferson County Hospice Residence.

Born on January 30, 1932 in St. Martinsville, LA, son of Haurtere Dugas and Laurence Judice, he graduated from high school in 1950 from St. Martinsville High School where he was a stand out athlete.

He entered the Air Force on December 29, 1950 and served with the 655th ACW Squadron in Watertown. He was honorably discharged January 21, 1955.

Following the service he returned to Louisiana where he worked for the postal service during which time he also attended the University of Central Louisiana. In 1967 he moved to Watertown and continued to work for the Watertown Post Office and retired from the Adams Center Post Office on July 3, 1987, as Post Master.

He married Helen Walts on May 18, 1953, the marriage ended in divorce in 1988. He married Kay Hadley on November 25, 1989 in Watertown. Kay passed October 18, 2009.

Mr. Dugas was the treasurer for the Black River Fiddlers Association for twenty years, member of the Carthage Elks Lodge, member of the Watertown American Legion Post 61, and he took great pride attending all his grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s sports contests, concerts, and school programs.

Among his survivors are four daughters and two sons in law, Julie Dugas, Ashville, NC, Juanita and Steven Duffany, Watertown, Cindy Affinati, Loudonville, NY, Laura and Todd Dudley, Duluth, Minnesota; two sons and their wives, Guy and Mary Dugas, Glenmont, NY, David and Wendy Dugas, Mansfield, MA; three stepdaughters and their husbands, Julie and Alan Sylver, Carthage, Sherri and Rick Ginger, Watertown, Susan and John Ashcraft, Carthage; two step sons and their wives, Roger and Penny Hadley Jr., Carthage, Kevin and Sandra Hadley, Carthage; a sister, Nell Granger, St. Martinsville, LA; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Two sisters, June LeCamus and Geraldine Mouton passed before him.

Calling hours will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6 at the Bruce Funeral Home, Black River.

The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 7 at the funeral home.

Burial with military honors will follow in the Sanford Corners Cemetery, Calcium.

Donations may be made to the Black River Fiddlers Association.
