The Plattsburgh High School football team has canceled the rest of its season, leaving the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference with just seven teams.
Plattsburgh began the season with 21 players, but has suffered injuries since then. The Hornets lost their first three games and were outscored 128-12. They forfeited a game against Saranac last weekend, and will also forfeit to Saranac Lake, Peru and Ticonderoga.
Section 7 is now scrambling to figure out the remainder of the league schedule.
The Section 7 playoff picture is also clouded. With Plattsburghs departure, that leaves only Peru and Beekmantown as Class B teams.
BIG SECTION 7 BRAWL
Last Saturday, the Peru at Beekmantown game was overshadowed by a benche -clearing brawl in the third quarter. Following a hard tackle, players from both sides began fighting on the Peru sideline.
State troopers and coaches rushed to the scene to break up the fight, and no players were injured or arrested. However, two players were ejected from the game, earning a one-game suspensions.
The incident was one of many over the first four weeks in the CVAC football season. In total, five players have been suspended for similar actions, including two from Peru, and one each from Beekmantown, Saranac and Ausable Valley.
