CANTON Two malnourished dogs are on the mend and their former owner was charged by Canton-based state police Tuesday with failing to feed the young pit bulls that she dropped off at the Potsdam Humane Society less than a week ago.
Christina E. Ladison, 28, of 62 Baker Road, was ordered to appear Oct. 10 in Potsdam Town Court to answer two misdemeanor charges of failure to provide food for the dogs.
She took the dogs to the animal shelter Thursday for treatment and said she had found them abandoned on her porch, police said.
Troopers investigated and found that Ladison had owned the dogs for at least a year. A neighbor told police that she helped nurse the dogs back to health when Ladison allegedly had neglected them about a year ago.
The dogs an approximately 2-year-old female and a year-old male are recuperating at the shelter after treatment at Town and Country Veterinary Clinic in Potsdam.
We named the female Hope and the male Justice, Potsdam Humane Society Executive Director Alysia M. Maynard said. They are very emaciated. They will eventually be up for adoption, but they need to get to a healthy weight.
