LOWVILLE — A 7-year-old Jefferson County boy was injured during a Pop Warner football game Saturday afternoon at the Lewis County Fairgrounds.

Village police said officers were not dispatched as a certified emergency medical technician was on the scene, but confirmed that the child, who is a member of the Fort Drum Pop Warner team, was injured when he was hit during a play on the field. The boy’s name was not released.

Lewis County Search and Rescue transported him to Lewis County General Hospital.

After briefly receiving care there, he was flown to Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, according to Mark A. Tuttle, director of Lewis County Search and Rescue.

No information was available about the boy’s injury, but he was released from Upstate the same night, according to Leette McCollum, Pop Warner league president.
